Ukiyo-Banare Melon Event

  • Uchi DC 1700 M Street Northwest Washington, District of Columbia, 20036 United States (map)

On August 2, 2026, Snow Crane partnered with Uchi DC for a one-night-only tasting dinner built entirely around a single, extraordinary fruit: the Ukiyo-banare (浮世離れ) melon — so rare that fewer than 30 exist in any given year, grown by one farmer, Shinya Yamazaki, at Hanakotoba Farm in Aomori, Japan.

Twelve guests gathered in Uchi DC's private dining room for an eight-course tasting menu that opened with the ceremonial presentation and tableside cutting of the whole melon — with Yamazaki-san flying in from Japan to share its story in person — and closed with a tableside liquid nitrogen ice cream, crafted live by Snow Crane and built entirely around the melon itself.

This is Snow Crane at its core: sourcing with intention, honoring the people behind rare ingredients, and turning a single object of obsession into an unforgettable evening.

This event is sold out. Follow along for the story as it unfolds.
